UWA Sports Park is a key asset in providing high quality sport and recreation opportunities and experiences. Australia-wide there could be few sites so ideally suited in shape, size and location to multi-sports facilities. The proximity to the City, beach and river is a great benefit.
The University has secured and will continue to secure international and national sporting events for UWA Sports Park to 2016 and beyond with the intention to host at least one international event (Indian Rim Asian University Games, the largest international university sports event ever held in Australia, in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 ) and two national events (Australian University Games 2010 and 2016) in this precinct every year.
This provides an opportunity to showcase WA as a destination for tourism, sport excellence, research and education. For example in 2010 and again in 2016 the Australian University Games, with over 24 sports, will showcase the newly completed Athletics and Basketball Stadiums to over 5000 people from around Australia.
